LEARNER ELECTIVES

WE NEED YOUR HELP..

For our electives to be successful we invite you to be involved by offering to share a skill, hobby or passion that you could teach our wonderful learners.  Whether it’s cooking, art, music, coding, design, mechanics, gardening, or any other interest you may have, we encourage you to consider teaching/working with a small group of learners. Your involvement not only enriches our curriculum it also builds a stronger school community and enhances the learner experience.

If you are interested in getting involved or would like to know more, please email Mrs Cook (principal@alfriston.school.nz) or Mrs Galvin (cgalvin@alfriston.school.nz) by the end of Term 3 (Friday 27 September 2024). We would be thrilled to collaborate with you to create a program that excites and engages our learners.

WATER POLO
“Kia ora Koutou,
Mountfort Park Waterpolo Club is excited to offer our Introduction to
Waterpolo Programme for beginners again in Term 4 this year.
We run this Introduction for beginners in Terms 1 and 4 of each year.
Whilst the programme is aimed at tamariki in Year 5-8 we engage with
Rangatahi from our club to participate and learn as they support in Coaching and Refereeing.
We also engage with the wider community to help encourage all tamariki to participate.
If you only have a few tamariki and cannot form a team we still want to know their names
and can place them in a team.
Waterpolo is played in a 2m deep pool so some basic swimming ability is
very important.  This is NOT a learn to swim programme.
Many tamariki who enjoy this sport often come out realising they might want to learn how to swim.  Being safe and confident in the water are some of the outcomes you can expect from this
programme.
As a coordinator of a team or gatherer of names YOU do not need to know anything about Waterpolo.  The link below is a short video clip for you to check out, it will give you a small idea of what he game can look like. Perhaps you could use it in your efforts to
round up a team.    https://photos.app.goo.gl/Sn7uv87Lj6wWZy758

We invite you and your kura or community group to see if you can collect up a team of interested players who’d like to have a go. You do NOT need to coach, or provide
any gear. We are just hoping you might share this opportunity with some potential players and enter them into our programme for a journey of learning and fun whilst playing with a ball in the water with friends.  Waterpolo is a great off season activity for rugby/netball/soccer teams and players. It’s a team sport for swimmers. It’s a fun challenge for a bunch of friends.
A team ideally consists of 10 – 12 players.  If you cannot collect that many names
you can still enter them into the programme.  We will combine players to make teams.
They need to be able to swim a bit. They will need togs. They will need a way to get to the pool. Beyond that, we will do the rest.
We will supply a draw, coaches, caps and balls, referees and a safe
encouraging environment where they can learn something new, have a go and have fun all at the same time. Below is the registration form link.  You can enter a team or as an individual (so that we can put you in a team). https://forms.gle/Y3xYjUgGEbSJ69zw7

As it says on the form, costs are not set yet as we have an application
in and are hopeful of getting some funding before the programme starts.
The cost on the form is expected to be the MOST you could expect to pay.
If you have any questions at all, please contact us on
