Cohort Entry – Notification to Community

Kia ora Alfriston School Whānau,

Firstly, I would like to thank the staff and parent community who emailed or met with me in relation to our Cohort Entry Consultation.

The shift to cohort entry at Alfriston School was supported overwhelmingly, therefore I wish to advise that Cohort Entry Intakes will begin in Term 4 of 2024.

What is cohort entry?

Children are able to start school in cohorts after they have turned 5.

There will be 2 entry points per term:
1 on the first day of term and 1 at a mid-point during a term.

Cohort entry does not replace the legal requirement that a child start school at age 6. Parents, caregivers and whānau can still choose to not enrol their student before then.

2024 dates for schools implementing cohort entry
TERM 4: 14 October 2024 and 18 November 2024

2025 dates for schools implementing cohort entry
TERM 1: 6 February 2025 and 10 March 2025 (start date TBC)
TERM 2: 28 April 2025 and 26 May 2025
TERM 3: 14 July 2025 and 18 August 2025
TERM 4: 6 October 2025 and 10 November 2025
